Jenny is determined to get out from under protective older brother Boone's protection, and when a distress call comes in from inventor Mac while Boone and Ophelia's daughter is born she gets her chance. Thinking that the inventor is going to be old and excentric, Jenny is surprised to find herself attracted to the young and fit Mac, who feels an equal attraction to her. But as much as he wants to, Mac refuses to give in to the attraction until Jenny admits that it isn't just sex. But with Sanctify hot on their trail its hard to think about anything other than surviving...not that the two of them will admit to that.
I absolutely loved book in this series, Queen of Swords, which followed Boone and Ophelia's story and introduced Jenny as a character. What this book brought was more depth to a character that was often referred to as mad, but actually wasn't. I found that there wasn't as much background into Jenny and Boone's family as there was in the first book, though there were some moments of vulnerability from Jenny about her feelings towards the whole thing.
Jenny as a character was brilliant, she was an extremely strong female character who also showed her softer side to Mac. It wasn't a straight away process either, in fact it seemed to take both Jenny and Mac time to trust each other, making their relationship progress at a good speed.
It was good to get an update on Boone and Ophelia as well, they do seem to have progressed a fair bit in their relationship, and now with a daughter their lives have changed a lot! Plus I really liked how the author actually captured them as new parents as opposed to just making everything magical.
There was a lot of action in Queen of Wands as well as the good amount of romance. This was both physically between characters and while flying ships, and there were several moments where I was kind of concerned for the safety of several of the main characters. Not only that but several of the twists in events really surprised me and had me on the edge of my seat!
Queen of Wands
by: Katee Robert
Release Date: 6/24/14
Genre: SciFi Romanc
Katee Robert learned to tell stories at her grandpa's knee. Her favorites then were the rather epic adventures of The Three Bears, but at age twelve she discovered romance novels and never looked back.
Though she dabbled in writing, life got in the way--as it often does--and she spent a few years traveling, living in both Philadelphia and Germany. In between traveling and raising her two wee ones, she had the crazy idea that she'd like to write a book and try to get published.
Her first novel was an epic fantasy that, God willing, will never see the light of day. From there, she dabbled in YA and horror, before finally finding speculative romance. Because, really, who wouldn't want to write entire books about the smoking-hot relationships between two people?
She now spends her time--when not lost in Far Reach worlds--playing imaginary games with her wee ones, writing, ogling men, and planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.
When Jenny O’Keirna gets a chance to slip her older brother’s leash, she jumps at it, even if it means playing babysitter to a too-smart-for-his-own-good inventor. She’s not expecting the attraction that sparks between them—or that Sanctify is just as desperate to take him for their own.
Never in Mac Flannery’s wildest dreams did he imagine Jenny would be the one sent for him. He sees beyond the mad grin the sister of Hansarda’s new king presents to the world, and that combination of vulnerability and wicked humor is a siren call he can’t resist.
But Sanctify is always three steps ahead of them. On the run—and unable to keep their hands off each other—Jenny and Mac devise an insane plan: kidnap the leader of Sanctify, and stop this war once and for all. Unfortunately, they’ve just played right into his hands…
