Blog Tour & Giveaway: Finacee For Hire by Tawna Fenske

I received a copy of Fiancée For Hire, book 2 of Front and Center, in exchange for my review.

MacArthur's job is top secret, and for this mission he needs a Fiancée. Seeing a way of getting her brother back for setting her up with a Marine as a nanny, Sheri suggests her friend Kelli, whose had the hots for Mac since she met him. At first she comes across as sweet and demure, just what Mac needs to aid the mission, and yet soon it becomes clear that he's taken on more than he's bargained for. Feisty and passionate, Kelli can't help but respond to Mac in a physical way, but when her heart starts to get involved she begins to struggle. Having a strong fear of commitment, teamed with Mac's over protectiveness, means that the barriers between them need to be knocked down, or they'll never figure out what is brewing between them.

I read Marine For Hire (the previous book) in one sitting and then repeated the feat with Fiancée For Hire, reason being these books are amazing! And totally different I might add. Some of the characters are the same, and that's good because it does feel like you get to know them, but the tone of Marine and the tone of Fiancée were definitely different and individual (and my guess is that book 3...hopefully there is a book 3...will be the same again.

As with Marine For Hire, I found myself laughing aloud (and probably coming across a bit weird) during Finacée for Hire, whether it was at one liners, banter between characters or Kelli's great analogies, though there wasn't one stand out quote in this book it was because they were all so good! I don't think I've found a book so humouress in a long time!

There were two main differences between this book and the previous one. The first being that the characters seemed to be more physical with each other earlier, though I think this was to do with the characters themselves. The way I read it, neither Kelli nor Mac were into commitment and I think that they were covering their issues up by using sex (like real people do). Though the fact that they were doing that made the sweet moments all the sweeter.

The other difference was the sense of suspense. I kind of saw the events that happened close to the end of the book happening, but that still didn't prepare me for them! Nor for the drama that happened after the issue was resolved. I thought that the author did a masterful job of managing to build the suspense, and that the change in tone from the rest of the book went seamlessly, which I think takes real skill.

I also found it really good that the famale character, Kelli, had a very successful career (as a Vet) and that that played a big role in the story (I think the lizard scene included some of Mac's best one-liners while showing that Kelli was skilled and that the author knew what she was talking about...even if the dictionary on my kindle got a bit of a bashing at that point). And I really liked that Mac admired and respected Kelli because of her job.

I'd definitely recommend these books, and very much hope there is more coming from this series!

Book Title: Fiancee for Hire
Author: Tawna Fenske

Book Synopsis:
A satisfying category romance from Entangled’s brand new Lovestruck imprint…
Falling in love was never part of the plan…
Former Marine MacArthur Patton has made a small fortune on top-secret government contracts and black-ops missions, but his new assignment involves something more dangerous—marriage.
Well, fake marriage anyway.
To keep weapons out of the hands of terrorists, Mac has to secure a fiancée. A sweet, demure, compliant fiancée to serve as his arm candy for a few weeks while he completes the covert arms deal in Mexico. His sister claims to know just the woman, and sends her best friend to play the role.
“Sweet” and “demure” aren’t in Kelli Landers’s repertoire. A badass veterinarian who neuters big dogs and bigger men on a regular basis, she can’t wait to bring Mr. Tall-Dark-and-Detached to his knees. Her longtime crush on the commitment-phobe makes her plan to seduce him even sweeter.
Love wasn’t part of the plan, but the deeper Mac and Kelli fall into their ruse, the more danger they attract, until more than just their hearts are on the line…
