Blog Tour: Demon's Vow by Jocelynn Drake

I received a copy of Demon's Vow in exchange for my review.

Gage is on the hunt for not one, but two, murders, one through his forced work for the Towers, and one from his freelance work for TAPSS. Meanwhile he also has to figure out a way to get his pregnant girlfriend, Trixie, to stay with him rather than go back to her people, the elves. Frustrated that he hasn't got anywhere, Gage finds himself back at the Towers, trying to gain access to his old mentors room, and the site of his childhood traumas, where he learns that he's inadvertantly dabbled in magic more dangerous than he had thought, but could lead him to the answer of how to defeat the Towers and to keep Trixie and their baby safe.

Oh my. I need to know what happens next that's for sure! Gage and his friends have definitely dragged me into their world and made me want to figure it all out so that they could be safe. Unfortunately I still have no idea! Interestingly, and despite the fact that there unrelsoved mysteries I don't feel as if the story was ended at a random point, which can be the case but thankfully wasn't.

There was very little interaction between Gage and his girlfriend Trixie in Demon's Vow, though interestingly I didn't think that that damaged the way that I saw their relationship. Quite the opposite actually. When they did talk I couldn't help but think the conversation was sweet, and I have hope for them, particularly because Gage was thinking about her at a lot of points throughout the story.

Gage's character development was definitely there, it became clearer and clearer as the story went on that he wants to help people and that is his ultimate motivation. Though even he admits to himself that he now has another level of motivation which is much more personal. I think that made him far more human as a character and far more relateable.

The way that the various species of magical being were added in was interesting too. There's so much space for authors to fit them into a world together, and I really liked the way that Drake did this and felt that the culture was definitely believable and her world enjoyable to read.

I really want to know what happens next, though the two books I've read (Demon's Fury and Demon's Vow) have also made me want to look back and read the other books in the Asylum Tales series.
