The child of Paz and Jinni, the last thing that Nixie expected she would have to be was a genie. Sentenced to 50 years servitude with only one day of freedom a year she resigns herself to her fate. Until her anger gets the best of her and she is cursed to 100 years confinement unless she is found. Robin Hood has heard rumours of a dark genie and plans to use her to fulfill his plans for vengeance.
It's been a while since I last read a Marie Hall book, and I had forgotten how easily I find myself sucked into her world and into Kingdom. The books can be read as standalone books, but they are better read in order (especially as Nixie's parents story was one of the previous books in the story).
I loved the way that Her One Wish very much focused the romance on the aspects that weren't sex (because of the nature of genies). There was chemistry between Nixie and Robin, but because they couldn't act on it there was more of a focus on the emotions involved. I also liked the way that the rest of Nixie's term as a genie played out. It could have easily been glanced over but Hall did a fantastic job of working it out without taking the easy route.
I also loved the melding of fairy tales (and legends in this case). Even with characters such as Robin Hood, Hall manages to make them have their own personalities and traits making them her own. Each character is a shade of grey as well, none of them are overly good or overly bad and it works well in terms of the story.
Once again Kingdom has delivered a great read!
